The next line of Happy Meal toys is truly meta: there’s a miniature replica of a McDonald’s restaurant and other staples of the fast food chain including tiny food plates, ordering kiosks and delivery trucks.
These new Lil McDonald’s toys – a total of 21 will be available – are coming to Happy Meals July 1.
“As a parent, there’s something magical about watching your child’s imagination come to life with these tiny toys,” said Anna Engel, director of marketing, brand, content and culture for McDonald’s USA, in a press release. “That’s what makes Lil McDonald’s so special. It brings back my own childhood memories of playing McDonald’s and now I get to create new ones with my kids.”
The announcement of the new Happy Meal toys comes as McDonald’s faces a June 24-30 boycott organized by grassroots advocacy group The People’s Union USA to protest the corporation’s rolling back of its DEI initiatives in January.
Lil McDonald’s toys: What are they and when can I get them?
The new toys will be available in Lil McDonald’s Happy Meals nationwide starting July 1. Among the 21 toys are miniature versions of a checkout register, french fries, soft drink machine, seating booth, and even a tiny Boo Bucket.
The Happy Meals also have some digital enhancements:
- Scan. Each Happy Meal box has a code you can scan to unlock the Drive Thru Dash online game.
- Download. At HappyMeal.com you can download a free Lil McDonald’s play zone placemat to use with your toys.
- Visit. You can use the McDonald’s app to find the closest McDonald’s with an actual PlayPlace for kids.
