The creators of “South Park” are slamming a long-delayed merger between Paramount, the parent company of the series’ home network Comedy Central, and Skydance, which has apparently disrupted new episodes of the series.

After Comedy Central announced July 2 that the Season 27 premiere of the series would be pushed back two weeks to July 23, series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone quickly slammed Paramount in a profanity-filled X statement from the official “South Park” account.

The pair called the merger a train wreck and blamed it for messing up the series. “We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow,” they added.

USA TODAY has reached out to Paramount for comment.

Paramount Global and Skydance Media announced their proposed merger in July 2024, in what would be a multibillion-dollar deal. However the deal has yet to close, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission. Variety reports that Paramount is also involved in an investor lawsuit looking to stop the deal in favor of a competing offer.

Paramount is the parent company behind Comedy Central, CBS, MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, Showtime, Paramount+ and Paramount Pictures. Skydance is the co-producer behind films like “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Mission: Impossible” and Netflix’s “The Old Guard,” and shows including Prime Video’s “Jack Ryan” and “Reacher.”

The teaser for “South Park” Season 27 saw the animated adult series tackling topics including Diddy and President Donald Trump.

The newest season of “South Park” is currently set to premiere Wednesday, July 23, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
