At least 14 people were injured in a bus crash at Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City, delaying bus services and snarling traffic during the morning commute, officials said.
Around 6:15 a.m., authorities responded to a collision involving three NJ Transit buses at the travel hub near Times Square. Fourteen people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and most were transported to nearby hospitals, according to the New York City Fire Department.
The New Jersey Transit Corporation, which operates the three buses that collided, said it temporarily suspended services to Port Authority. At the bus terminal, authorities closed the express bus lane ramp for several hours and warned of residual delays.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
The three-bus accident impacted travel on several major thoroughfares. The high trafficked Lincoln Tunnel connecting New Jersey to Manhattan saw a 30-minute delay. Traffic was also slowed on the George Washington Bridge.
The Port Authority Bus Terminal serves an estimated 260,000 passenger trips on busy weekdays, according to its website. The transit hub serves routes for daily commuters in New Jersey and the Lower Hudson Valley, and it also accommodates bus services to and from cities across the Northeast and Canada, including Washington D.C. and Philadelphia.
In August 2020, a bus crash on a ramp near Port Authority in Manhattan injured 16 people.
