BTS’ Jung Kook, Jimin discharged from South Korea military
Another two K-pop stars from the group BTS were released from military service in South Korea. Jimin and Jung Kook followed RM and V’s release.
Fresh off a mandatory stint in the South Korean military, the members of BTS are returning to the stage.
The K-pop supergroup, which is comprised of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook, announced plans for a brand new album and world tour in spring 2026.
During a July 1 livestream on South Korean web platform Weverse, the band reunited for the first time in nearly three years, revealing they would travel to the United States this month to immediately begin working on new music.
“We’ll be releasing a new BTS album in the spring of next year,” they said during the livestream, which garnered over 7 million real-time views, according to a release. “Starting in July, all seven of us will begin working closely together on new music. Since it will be a group album, it will reflect each member’s thoughts and ideas. We’re approaching the album with the same mindset we had when we first started.”
All seven members have now completed their military service, which is required by South Korean law for most able-bodied men between the ages of 18 and 28. The service can last between 18 and 21 months.
One of the most popular musical acts in the world, BTS has inspired a full cultural crossover, with their catchy, synth-heavy tunes and matching choreography catching on in the United States and beyond. Their hiatus has been mourned by a pack of fervently loyal fans, who call themselves ARMY.
Now, with new music on the horizon and a run of live shows, excitement is revving up for a fresh set of viral moments to fawn over.
“We’re also planning a world tour alongside the new album,” they said in the livestream. “We’ll be visiting fans all around the world, so we hope you’re as excited as we are.”
