Brian O’Conner may be rejoining the “Fast & Furious” family.
Vin Diesel has teased the return of Paul Walker’s character to the action franchise for its upcoming 11th installment, more than a decade after Walker’s death.
Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto in the “Fast & Furious” series, made the announcement during an appearance at FuelFest, according to a clip shared on Instagram. He told fans that Universal Pictures wants to release the next “Fast” movie in April 2027 and that he agreed under three conditions, the last of which was “reuniting Dom and Brian O’Conner.”
Brian O’Conner is the character Walker played in the series, beginning with the original 2001 “The Fast and the Furious” movie. The actor died in a car accident in November 2013.
After Walker’s death, his scenes for 2015’s “Furious 7” were completed by having his brothers stand in for him and replacing their faces with Walker’s, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie ended with an emotional send-off to Brian, who is seen driving off into the distance.
It was not immediately clear how Walker’s character would return for the upcoming “Fast” film.
But Diesel has previously teased his desire to bring the character back, telling Total Film in 2023 that he “couldn’t imagine this saga ending without truly saying goodbye to Brian O’Conner.” In a 2024 Instagram post, the actor reflected on his “brotherhood” with Walker and teased, “To think I just saw concept art for the next chapter. Brian … yeah, I will have to brace myself for this next film.”
Diesel also said at FuelFest that his other priorities for the next “Fast” movie are to bring the franchise back to Los Angeles and return to a focus on car culture and street racing.
Universal has not confirmed a release date or title for the next “Fast & Furious” movie.
The 11th installment will be a follow-up to “Fast X,” which ended on a cliffhanger in 2023. Diesel has described the film as a finale to the series.
