Texas A&M earns top seed in NCAA softball tournament: Aggies’ schedule

The path is set for Texas A&M to return to softball glory.

Texas A&M is the No. 1 overall seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, the first time the Aggies will be the top seed in the postseason. They will host the College Station Regional with Saint Francis, Marist and Liberty also in the fold. The full field was announced Sunday evening during the NCAA selection show.

It’s been a magical season for Trisha Ford’s club, which has continued to rise in the sport since she took over the team after the 2022 season. The Aggies went 45-9, their most wins since 2017. While among the best records in the country, it’s how the Aggies have done it that makes them worthy of the top seed.

The Aggies dominated the nonconference slate with a 30-2 record in such games, the only losses against Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. They entered the gauntlet of the SEC, and Texas A&M still proved dominant as the Aggies finished second in the conference behind Oklahoma. The two teams were set to meet in a highly anticipated SEC championship game, but weather prevented the potential national championship matchup from happening.

Not only is Texas A&M ranked No. 1 in the country by several polls, it finished with the best RPI in the country, a ranking it has held for more than a month.

With leaders like Emiley Kennedyon the bump and Mya Perez producing at the plate, Texas A&M is not only trying to get to the Women’s College World Series for the first time since 2017, but the Aggies are looking to get back to the top of the sport. Texas A&M was a powerhouse when the NCAA began to sponsor the sport, winning the second ever NCAA title in 1983 and again in 1987. Now nearly 40 years since the last time, Texas A&M is in prime position do it again.
