Guardian Australia journalists have been recognised for their reporting across a range of categories at the Melbourne Press Club awards.
Inequality reporter, Stephanie Convery, won the award for reporting on disability issues with her story about how Australians with disabilities are paid a lower super rate in supported employment.
Courts and justice reporter, Nino Bucci, was highly commended in three categories – investigative reporting, feature writing and news reporting.
His stories on father Lual Akech’s quest for answers after police botched the investigation into his son’s death saw Bucci highly commended in the investigations and feature writing categories.
He was also highly commended in the news report category for his story about the family of Thomas Carrick, the autistic boy who was cleared of terror charges after a magistrate found he had been groomed by an undercover officer.
Climate and environment reporter, Petra Stock, was also highly commended in the excellence in science, medical and health reporting category, for her story about research into whether fish have feelings.
